SaharaReporters learnt that Oliver Vershima had been caught with the lifeless body of his alleged lover in June 2023 and he was arrested by the Adikpo division of the Benue State Police Command.

A Roman Catholic cleric, Oliver Vershima, who allegedly attempted to abort the pregnancy of his lover and got her killed in the process has been released by the Nigerian Police Force.

SaharaReporters learnt that Oliver Vershima had been caught with the lifeless body of his alleged lover in June 2023 and he was arrested by the Adikpo division of the Benue State Police Command.

The cleric was later moved to the state Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Makurdi, Benue State capital, and SaharaReporters gathered that it was at the SCIID that the case was compromised.

A source privy to the situation said the cleric was neither charged nor arraigned by the police before he was relieved of the alleged murder.

The source: “It is a pity to know that a case of that magnitude ended at the police building instead of a courtroom. Police stations in Nigeria are now courts of law where cases should be taken to and judged in favour of those who give bribes to right their wrongs.

“Oliver is known for sleeping around with different women, despite his position in Roman Catholic Church, and he is a married man. He uses his position in the church to lure women into accepting his sexual advances to satisfy his flesh, which is anti-Christ, anti-God and anti-gospel.

“Before the incident where he killed his lover in the process of abortion, there were several other cases of Oliver having sex with different women in the church and at a point, he was transferred to another branch of the Saint Martins Catholic Church Perish, Mbape, but after a while, Oliver was taken back to the same branch, Saint Augustine Branch at Jov Mbahura, where he caused the mayhem that led to the death of his lover,” the source said.

When contacted for a comment, Anene Sewuese Catherine, the Benue State Police Spokesperson, stated that she did not have any information because the matter had been reported for a long time.

“I would have to check again and give you feedback,” she told SaharaReporters.
