The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) on Wednesday started a roundtable discussion with Northern governors, traditional rulers and other political stakeholders over the lingering insecurity problem in the region.

A former Senate President and former Governor of Kwara State revealed this in a post on X, claiming that he arrived for Day 2 of the roundtable discussion on Thursday.

“I have just arrived at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre for Day 2 of the Two-Day Roundtable on Insecurity in Northern Nigeria,” he wrote.

A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad also stated he was at the event which was held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.

Bashir added that the discussion was organised to find lasting solutions to insecurity problems in the northern part of Nigeria.

According to him, it was with the support of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

He said, “Attended a high-level two-day roundtable discussion organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) with the backing of President @officialABAT through the Ministry of Defence and ONSA. The roundtable, which is being held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, is solely focused on addressing insecurity in some parts of northern Nigeria. Governors from the northern region, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders participated in the event.”

Many states in the northern part of Nigeria have been ravaged by terrorist attacks and invasions which have resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of people, destruction of properties and displacement of millions of people.

The most recent of these incidents were the attacks on Plateau communities which started around Christmas Eve in 2023.

SaharaReporters had reported how gunmen invaded the Plateau communities, set several houses ablaze, looted farm produce and destroyed properties during the attacks.
