Renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, was one of the dignitaries who attended the funeral of the late Dowen College schoolboy, Sylvester Oromoni in Warri, Delta State on Saturday.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Oromoni Jnr, a 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos State, allegedly tortured by some senior students of the college was laid to rest on Saturday, at the family's compound at Ogbe-Ijoh, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta, after two years of fighting for justice for him.

Speaking at the funeral, Falana, who is also the family lawyer, noted that the young boy would be remembered for touching the lives of the family, the school and his colleagues.

Falana said, “We are here to celebrate a great Nigerian whose life was cut short. His short life was so eventful according to his biography that was just read to us now. The short life of Solomon cannot be compared with that of Methuselah.

“Sylvester, touched lives of his teachers, friends, fellow students and we should be reminded and ask ourselves what would you be remembered for after this life. We must try as much as possible to rededicate our lives to God almighty. I must thank the parents of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr for standing and demanding for justice for their son."
Sylvester, born on December 4, 2009, died on November 30, 2021, in controversial circumstances following alleged tortured by some senior students of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos State.

He was allegedly tortured by some senior students of the college who wanted to initiate him into a cult group.

The death of Sylvester, which generated condemnation and a series of protests by civil society groups and women across the country as well as heated controversies, was yet to yield any positive results two years after, following alleged delay tactics by some officials of the Lagos State Government.

At this burial on Saturday which attracted several dignitaries from far and near, emotions ran high as family members, friends and well wishes were seen in tears, crying and mourning the untimely demise of Sylvester.
