The Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC), Lagos State chapter has condemned the abduction of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local council chairman in the state, Mr Philip Aivoji.

SaharaReporters had reported how gunmen kidnapped Mr Aivoji on Thursday at about 6 pm along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The state PDP publicity secretary, Hakeem Amode, who confirmed Aivoji’s abduction called on security agencies and government authorities at all levels to intervene promptly and secure his release.

Amode stated that Aivoji was kidnapped while returning from a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, which was convened by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

Reacting in a press statement issued on Sunday by Mobolaji Olusegun, IPAC said the continued detention of Aivoji by the kidnappers would put him at risk of health deterioration.

It urged “Oyo State Governor Makinde, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu, and the respective security apparatuses to do everything possible, without leaving a stone unturned to secure the release of the kidnapped party chieftain and others in their custody, and bring the criminals to book”.

The statement continued: “We want to commend the Ogun State Police force for the effort made so far to secure the release of nine (9) out of the ten (10) kidnapped and urge them to put more effort into securing the release of the Chairman who happened to be the tenth (10th) victim.

“We also urge Mr President, His Excellency Bola Tinubu to declare a national war against kidnapping and similar criminal vices across the country, to send a message to these criminal elements while reassuring the international community, that Nigeria will no longer accede to the impunity of lawlessness, of which this type of kidnapping represents.”
