The new Kogi State Deputy Governor Salifu Joel Oyibo on Saturday prostrated himself before the immediate past governor of the state immediately after he was sworn in.

A video uploaded by Channel TV shows Oyibo going to where Bello sat and prostrating himself immediately after he took his oath of allegiance which was administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Josiah Majebi.

Oyibo's wife also knelt before the ex-governor and his wife in obeisance to the former governor.

SaharaReporters had reported how Oyibo and his principal, Usman Ododo were sworn in on Saturday.

The duo and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were declared the winners of the state governorship election which was held in November 2023.

SaharaReporters also reported how Ododo made some appointments on his first day in office, retaining his predecessor, Bello’s loyalists, nephew and other commissioners.

Ali Bello, whom Ododo appointed as his Chief of Staff, is being tried for a N3 billion fraud.

In 2023, the anti-corruption body arraigned Bello’s nephew, Ali Bello, along with two others, before Justice J.K. Omotosho of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on 18 counts.

The court admitted Bello and the three others to N500 million bail on February 20, 2023.

The governor nominated some commissioners and other top aides. Some of those appointed served in the immediate past government of Yahaya Bello.

They included former Secretary to the State Government (SGF), Folashade Ayoade Arike, Kingsley Fanwo, and Deedat Salami Ozigi, among others.
