IPAC also called on the security agencies to provide adequate security during the re-run elections.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that they conduct free, fair and credible re-run elections in the state.

The Enugu State chapter of IPAC gave the charge in a 6-point communique issued after their Expanded and Extraordinary meeting held at its Secretariat on Monday.

It warned that what happened during the governorship election should not repeat itself in the forthcoming elections, where scores were manipulated to favour a political party or candidate and turn around to tell other candidates to go to court.

IPAC also called on the security agencies to provide adequate security during the re-run elections.

The council equally called on INEC to ensure that approved observers are allowed to vet the credibility of the election.

The Chairman of IPAC, Edwin Alor, who read the communique jointly signed by the 16 members who are the chairmen of different political parties in the state and past chairmen of the Council, commended the state government for improved security and urged the Council to maintain the existing zoning arrangement.

The communique noted that the council set up a three-man committee to reconcile various interests in IPAC before the re-run elections.

Addressing the meeting earlier, IPAC chairman, Alor said that the meeting was convened to put heads together to chart the way forward and strengthen IPAC in Enugu.

"This meeting is a crucial one which is envisioned at putting heads together to chart a course of action towards strengthening of IPAC as well as promotion of democracy and good governance in our state."

Reacting to the chairman's address, IPAC's former chairman, John Nwobodo urged IPAC to ensure that INEC conducted a credible election.

"If IPAC speaks with one voice, INEC will do well at conducting credible elections."
