President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State by suspected herdsmen.

SaharaReporters had reported that the incident happened between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in the Ajoni Local Government Area of the state.

The monarchs identified as Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, were attacked by the gunmen while returning from a meeting.

Sources, according to Oodua News, disclosed that another monarch, Alara of Ara in Ikole LG, narrowly escaped when the armed men accosted them and attempted to forcibly take them away.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu described the incident as mindless and brutal bloodletting.

He vowed that the killers would not escape justice.

Ngelale stated, “It is with grief that President Bola Tinubu receives the news of the killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State, the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola.

“President Tinubu condemns this mindless and brutal bloodletting, and pledges that the perpetrators will not escape justice.

“The President condoles with the families and subjects of the traditional rulers, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and the people of Ekiti State on this deeply agonizing development.”

Similarly, Ngelale said that President Tinubu has directed the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers kidnapped around the Eporo-Ekiti area of the State on Monday.

“As security of life and property is the primary responsibility of the government, President Tinubu assures Nigerians that the nation's security architecture is being robustly fortified for better and expected outcomes,” the statement added.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Ekiti State Government confirmed the bandit attack and abduction of students, teachers, and a driver in the Emure-Ekiti area of the state.

The state government assured residents and relations of the victims that the rescue operation was ongoing by the security agencies.
