The governor gave the assurance in Yola on Monday while addressing the state on the recent Supreme verdict, which affirmed his reelection.

The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has assured that his administration would prosecute the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Yunusa Ari, along with other officials.

The governor gave the assurance in Yola on Monday while addressing the state on the recent Supreme verdict, which affirmed his reelection.

SaharaReporters had on January 31, 2023, reported that the Supreme Court on Wednesday affirmed the election of Adamawa State governor.

The apex court held that Governor Fintiri was validly elected in accordance with the provisions of the law.

According to the governor, all those who allegedly connived with the REC to declare election results before the conclusion of collation, would also face prosecution.

SaharaReporters learnt that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 election, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, also known as Binani and three service commanders who gave security cover for the REC were said to be on the list.

The commanders are: Commissioner of Police on election duty, Ahmed Mohammed Barde; Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Babagana Bulama and the Commander of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mohammed Sanusi.

"The Supreme Court in its judgement has condemned the action of the REC as an act of "irresponsibility and criminality."

“As for those who connived with the REC to make us pass through those democratically embarrassing moments, I assure you once again, that we owe it a duty to prosecute all of them according to the dictates of the law. This is the only way we can protect our electoral process and democratic culture from undue abuse," Fintiri said.

The governor commended the electoral umpire for swiftly countering the unlawful declaration of Binani as the winner before the conclusion of results collation.
