The fare, which is more than the amount paid in 2023 by over N1.7 million, was announced in Yola, the state capital on Wednesday. In 2023, pilgrims were charged N2.89 million.

Intending Muslim pilgrims in Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria will pay N4.679 million to perform the 2024 Hajj, the state government has said.

The fare, which is more than the amount paid in 2023 by over N1.7 million, was announced in Yola, the state capital on Wednesday. In 2023, pilgrims were charged N2.89 million.

The Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission, Abubakar Salihu said the new fare was influenced by several economic factors, among them an astronomical hike in operational expenses and the steady fall of the naira.

He said that the decision was made after a thorough consultation with relevant stakeholders.

"The commission is committed to providing the best possible services while ensuring transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the funds.

"Therefore, intending pilgrims should always adhere to the rules and regulations both in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia in order to enhance a hitch-free and successful pilgrimage," Salihu said.
