End The Sham Trial Against Sowore — African Action Congress Warns Tinubu-Led Nigerian Government

The party also chastised the government for wasting the country's limited resources on a case in which they had exhibited no genuine diligence.

The African Action Congress (AAC) has again asked the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government to end the continual prosecution of its 2019 and 2023 elections presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

In a press statement issued by the Oyo State AAC Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, and made available to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the party said the criminal charges brought against Sowore by the Nigerian government were merely political persecution to intimidate him.

The statement also chastised the government for wasting the country's limited resources on a case in which they had exhibited no genuine diligence.

The statement reads: “The Oyo State chapter of the AFRICAN ACTION CONGRESS (AAC) has called on the Tinubu-led APC government of Nigeria to end the political persecution of the leader and former candidate of the AAC In the 2023 general elections, Omoyele SOWORE, noting that the frivolous charges are nothing but political persecution.

“You will recall that back in August 2019, Sowore was arrested by the SSS in a Gestapo manner in Lagos and detained for 5 months, restricted to Abuja for 3 years, and restricted to Nigeria till date because he called for a “RevolutionNow” protest, his arrest did not stop the protest as it happened in over 25 states in Nigeria and in major cities around the world. The protest was also declared constitutional by the Lagos high court in 2020 with 1 million naira damages awarded against the Federal government.

“It is however unfortunate that the Federal government has turned the case into a joke running from one prosecutor to another, wasting state funds to chase shadows.

“The question on the lips of Nigerians today is that “Are we not due for a revolution? We saw how “Revolutionnow” started trending 24 hours after the presidential election Nigerian, symbolising the fact that the transfer of government from Buhari to TINUBU was just an exchange of baton of destruction to Nigerians.

“Similarly, the Attorney General of the federation, Lateef Fagbemi is currently following the tyrannical steps of his predecessor, Abubakar Mallami.

“We are warning them all to stop this shenanigan, enough is enough, this sham trial must stop and SOWORE must be free …#FreeSowore #EndTheShamTrial.”
