A source in the community revealed this to SaharaReporters, adding that the Navy has also put everything in place to demolish houses and buildings in the community.

The Nigerian Navy has put a signpost at the Iddo community of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to claim the ownership of the landed property in the area.

A source in the community revealed this to SaharaReporters, adding that the Navy has also put everything in place to demolish houses and buildings in the community.

Iddo community is a residential area which houses hundreds of students of the University of Abuja.

“This Land Belongs To The Nigerian Navy. Pack And Leave. All Properties Here Will Be Demolished Soon. Notice Served On 12/02/2024,” the inscription on the signpost read as seen in a picture obtained by SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters had also reported how the Nigerian Army and the police brutally evicted the residents of this community, majorly UNIABUJA students from their houses for demolition without prior notice in 2021.

According to the source, the land forcefully acquired in the community in 2021 has yet to be used.

The source said, “Earlier this week, the Nigerian Navy came to put a signpost at Iddo that they are coming to demolish the whole of Iddo community that the land belongs to the Nigerian Navy.

“They carried out some demolitions before now; they demolished partly, I think in 2021.

“That demolition in 2021, they have not used the land, they haven’t done anything on the land. They just claimed that the land belonged to the Nigerian Navy. But presently, they are warning again and they want to demolish properties. This is a student community that houses many students. It is a big economic community.”

When contacted, the spokesman for the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan told SaharaReporters that he would make findings on the issue.

“But rest assured that the Nigerian Navy never grabs land. Navy-allocated land remains Navy-allocated land even if encroached on by trespassers. I will make inquiries and revert,” he said.
