The uproar according to report was caused by an initial report of two lifeless bodies found in Opolo community apparently of the Okutukutu community indigenes.
There was palpable tension in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Monday around the Opolo-okutukutu axis as youths of both communities engaged each other in a melee leaving residents to scamper for their lives.
The uproar according to report was caused by an initial report of two lifeless bodies found in Opolo community apparently of the Okutukutu community indigenes.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Command in a statement via Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, an ASP, said the turmoil started after the matter of two lifeless bodies was reported by the communities chiefs and upon policemen detachment to neighborhood.
He said, “Today being 19th February, 2024 at about 1045 hours One Chief Ekezie Gabriel 'M' came to the Control room and reported that two persons were found lifeless at Opolo, the youths of Opolo claimed they were murdered by okutukutu youths who invaded their Community “
However, it was discovered that one person was killed while one was injured.
“Upon receipt of the information ten (10) patrol Teams from various Tactical Units were dispatched with a Phantom Drone to monitor and contain the situation during which the patrol teams discovered a lifeless body and also rescue a critically injured person to the Hospital.”
“The hoodlums from Opolo attacked the Drone operators dispatch to the scene and hijacked the Drone Control panel which subsequently led to the crash of the Drone.“
"Also, the command confirmed the arrest of two suspects while enjoining residents to go about their lawful duties and report any suspicious act to the authorities."
