APC Declares Edo Governorship Primary Inconclusive, To Be Concluded Thursday

It was learnt that the federal lawmaker polled total votes of 40,483 to emerge as the party’s candidate during the primary election, according to Hope Uzodimma, Imo State Governor and head of the APC primary election committee in Edo State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the party’s governorship primary election which was held on Saturday in Edo State inconclusive.

SaharaReporters had reported how the party on Saturday declared a member of the House Representatives, Dennis Idahosa, as its governorship candidate ahead of the Edo State Gubernatorial Election slated for September 21, 2024.

It was learnt that the federal lawmaker polled total votes of 40,483 to emerge as the party’s candidate during the primary election, according to Hope Uzodimma, Imo State Governor and head of the APC primary election committee in Edo State.

The election was declared as flawed after three winners emerged as the APC governorship candidates.

One of the top contenders, Senator Oserheimen Osunbor and other stakeholders called for the cancellation of the election.

Reacting, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had said that it would only reckon with the exercise conducted at the venue communicated by the national leadership of the party.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, which lasted for about three hours on Tuesday night, APC national publicity secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, said, “The NWC resolves that the Edo State governorship primary election has not been completed and has now fixed Thursday, February 22, 2024 for the completion of the APC primary election process.”

He however, declined to answer questions after reading the short text of the press conference.
