They were said to be from the Ilorin Zonal office of the commission.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the early hours of Wednesday invaded some private hotels of Kwara State University and arrested over 25 students for alleged cybercrimes.

They were said to be from the Ilorin Zonal office of the commission.

SaharaReporters learned that the anti-graft operatives seized cars, laptops and mobile phones belonging to students during the operation which took place at Malete in the Moro Local Government Area of the state.

Multiple sources from the school confirmed that about 15 students were eventually released by the commission after they paid some money.

“They released some of them yesterday – the ones they considered as having minor issues, but they also paid some money to EFCC. But some of the students are still with them. The ones still with them have critical cases. I heard that EFCC found some evidence against them,” one of the sources told SaharaReporters.

This comes barely a week after SaharaReporters reported how students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) were arrested by EFCC officials during an early morning raid of off-campus hostels.

SaharaReporters learnt that the operatives stormed students’ lodges around Orita Obele, Roadblock at about 2 am, broke into rooms and arrested some students.

It was gathered that many of the students first thought the anti-graft agency operatives were kidnappers but later found out that they were EFCC officials.
