The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has condemned the attack on human rights advocate, Omoyele Sowore, by lawless operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how Sowore was attacked by the DSS personnel when he along with his supporters was on his way to the Federal High Court in Abuja to collect the certified true copy of his treasonable felony case recently thrown out by the court.

SaharaReporters learnt that the activist was denied entry to the court while one of his mobile phones was collected and seized by the DSS personnel.

Some of the people with him were also assaulted and slapped by the lawless DSS personnel.

Reacting, civic group, SERAP described the actions of the security operatives as infringement on Sowore’s fundamental human rights.

The group, therefore, asked DSS authorities to immediately release the phones seized from Sowore and his people.

SERAP wrote: “BREAKING: We condemn the reported assault on journalist Omoyele Sowore and his team and the confiscation of their mobile phones by the DSS. They were also reportedly prevented from entering the premises of the Federal High Court, Abuja. The DSS must immediately return the phones and allow free access to court premises as a matter of human rights.”
