Daurawa resigned on Thursday after the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf criticised the Islamic police for what he called "numerous rights abuses."

The Kano State commander of the Islamic police, Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa has resigned, SahaReporters has learnt.

Daurawa resigned on Thursday after the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf criticised the Islamic police for what he called "numerous rights abuses."

The governor had openly criticised the operations of the morality police police, noting that operatives of the outfit were treating young people as animals.

The governor lambasted the Hisbah police saying, "They treat young people suspected of misdemeanour like animals.”

"It is inappropriate to tie up and throw suspects into an open van like an animal," the governor added.

This followed the arrest of a popular social media (Tik Toker) influencer, Murja Kunya, penultimate week.

In a video on his verified Facebook page, Shaikh Daurawa who was a two-time commander of Hisbah said he was demoralised by the governor's utterances on Hisbah.

He, however, thanked the Kano state government for the opportunity given to him to serve.

Residents of the state are currently divided over the development, as some have condemned the governor's criticism.

According to them, the governor humiliated the highly-rated religious leader by siding with those considered as bad characters.

On the other hand, other residents think the governor should be praised for upholding human rights.
