SaharaReporters learnt that Ogbonnaya was arrested by the police and has been detained at an unknown location as his whereabouts are presently unknown.

The Nigeria Police Force have reportedly invaded the residence of a leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Edmond Ogbonnaya, more commonly known as Greg, in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State and arrested him.

SaharaReporters learnt that Ogbonnaya was arrested by the police and has been detained at an unknown location as his whereabouts are presently unknown.

One of the associates of the MEND leader told SaharaReporters that despite assisting the former president, Muhammadu Buhari's administration to stop the bombing in the Niger Delta region by militants - the avengers in 2015 and 2016, the government had forgotten him and turned back to witch-hunt the Niger Delta leader.

SaharaReporters was told that "Greg" is the chairman of the Overseas Marine Services (OMS).

One of Ogbonnaya's junior associates, Oluwasegun Moses, narrated how the police picked up Ogbonnaya (who he refers to as "my boss" and the police claimed that he had a psychiatric condition and they needed to take him to a secret location.

He said, "I started working with him in 2011. Three Mondays ago, I realised we could not talk on phone. He is based in Lagos while I am in Abuja. We speak every day. Of course, I had no reason to panic. But on the third day, I knew something was wrong. He was staying in the Ajegunle area. The policemen came and took him to a psychiatric home, saying he looked scruffy and he was claiming he wanted to lead Nigeria.

"My boss told the police that he wanted to speak with Segun, but the police prevented him from speaking with me, and we have not spoken since then.

"There is a project that started and brought us so close together. My boss assisted the former president, Muhammadu Buhari's administration in stopping the bombing in the Niger Delta region by militants - the avengers in 2015 and 2016. He was MEND founder and he understood high level of security intelligence.

"He went to and was dealing with the former National Security Adviser, Maj Gen Babagana Monguno (retd.) They know him very well at the Office of the National Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of MIlitary Intelligence (DMI). He was very grounded in MEND. His wife apparently did not want him to tow the path of assisting the government.

"My boss was staying in Asokoro, Abuja before. But he was owing and he had to leave for Lagos. He did not collect any dime from the Buhari's administration despite helping the former government to bring peace to the Niger Delta region and stop the spate of pipeline vandalisation and vessel bombing.

"Immediately after he assisted Buhari to stop the Niger Delta avengers, the agreement between him and the NSA is "Don't go back to NNPC." But when he got home, he had the spiritual nudge to venture into something else. God spoke to him through Psalm 21. He has been waiting. He was into Foreign Direct Investments but when he got a leading, he closed all his FDIs."

Speaking further on the background issues which could have led to the police's arbitrary arrest and detention of "Greg" Moses added, "Brig Gen Yinka Famadewa, who was Principal Staff Officer 1 to Monguno, worked very well with the MEND leader, Greg. My boss, Greg, told the NSA how he along with Henry Okah, Tompolo, Senator Brigidi and Peter Odili in Camp 5 formed the MEND.

"But after he had helped to cut to size the bombings in the Niger Delta, he got no compensation from the government. We just woke up and saw headlines like "MEND breaks silence" and the NSA started using my boss's platform to state that there was peace in the Niger Delta region.

"The project his company was targeting from the government which is into millions of dollars has not yet come. The DMI and the ONSA have not given any update on it. Instead the police have gone to pick him up. And we are not able to speak with him."
