A herder, 50 heads of cattle and an unspecified number of sheep have been reportedly killed in renewed violence in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria.

The gunmen also rustled about 50 heads of cattle in the attack, according to eyewitnesses.

SahaReporters learnt that the incident happened on Tuesday at Fanzo village in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

A herder who spoke on condition of anonymity said he lost 27 heads of cattle aside from the unspecified number of sheep lost in the incident.

"All armed with AK-47 rifles, they attacked and opened fire indiscriminately. One of us was killed and another was injured.

"They also carted away about 50 (heads of) cattle, killed 50 others and an unspecified number of sheep," the eyewitness said on condition of anonymity.

It was however gathered that the Sector Four Commander of the joint task force had mobilised to mitigate further breakdown of law and breach of the peace in the area.
