March 8, 2024

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of four suspected killers of a student of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.

This was revealed to SaharaReporters during a telephone conversation with the spokesperson for the state police command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), on Friday morning.

“Four suspects have been arrested so far and the case is still under investigation,” Toun Ejire-Adeyemi told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters learned that the deceased was killed in a private hostel within the university community in Malete, Moro local government area of Kwara State.

The killers are suspected to be cult members who were unhappy about the closeness of the deceased with one of their female friends on campus.

The tragic incident coupled with previous raids by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on hostels, prompted the school administration to suspend the school's ongoing first-semester examination.

SaharaReporters had reported that the EFCC confirmed the arrest of students of KWASU students for alleged internet fraud.

The anti-graft agency said its Ilorin Zonal Command personnel arrested 48 students and two others for offences bordering on internet fraud.

The agency said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in their various hideouts after days of surveillance and fruitful intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences.

Items recovered from the suspects included nine cars, 24 laptops and different brands of phones.

It said the suspects would soon be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
