Kaduna Government Vows To Prosecute Kidnappers Of 200 School Pupils Despite No Arrest Yet

The Kaduna State Government has vowed to prosecute the abductors of over 200 school children in Kuriga community of the state last week.

SaharaReporters had reported that some terrorists invaded LGEA Primary School, Kuriga (1) in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday morning and kidnapped scores of pupils and teachers.
 
The incident which reportedly happened at about 8:20 am immediately after the morning assembly, SaharaReporters learnt sent residents scampered for safety as the hoodlums shoot sporadically.
 
Locals said the headteacher of the school and some other staff were among the victims.
 
It has now been confirmed that 280 students both male and female age between 5 and 10 were kidnapped with about 27 escaped from the terrorists and had returned to their parents.
 
However, speaking at the inaugural and mentoring programme organised by the State Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), the Chief Law Officer of the state vowed that once the abductors were arrested, his ministry would speed up prosecution.
 
“It is not for those in the justice system to commence prosecution where people who are considered to have committed an offence," explained, adding. 
"But I assure you that when investigations are concluded and case diaries are sent for advice, prosecution will always follow suit.”
 
While reiterated the government’s commitment towards improving the living standard of women and children across the state, the commissioner said the government had introduced measures aimed at addressing the plight of women and children.
Some of these measures according to him include quick dispensation of justice on cases affecting women, as well as the domestication of child rights act.

The state lead of the NBA women forum, Dr. Hadiza Ali, said the aim of the programme was to sensitise women on the basic rudiments of the legal profession, as well as to mentor them on the need to be self-reliant.

Mrs Ali, however, called on the state to fund the judiciary to enable it dispense justice promptly.
