Buhari’s Ex-Aide, Others Knock Peter Obi For Breaking Ramadan Fast With Muslims In Nasarawa, Call It ‘Eye Service’

Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and some other Nigerian netizens on X have knocked the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi for breaking Ramadan fast with Muslim faithful in Nasarawa State on Monday.

They described the action as ‘eye service’.

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines eye service as “attendance to duty only when being watched”.

A video surfaced online showing the moment Obi and members of his team visited the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque on Monday evening to break the Ramadan fast with Muslims.

Tweeting about it, Obi wrote: “I had the honour of travelling to Lafia in Nasarawa state, where I had the privilege of meeting with the Emir of Lafia, Honorable Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad JSC Rtd, a very revered, leader and also extended my courtesy to Governor Abdullahi Sule.

 

“This visit was more than a mere formality, it was a genuine expression of my deep respect and unwavering solidarity with the community.”

“Thereafter my team and I had the opportunity of feeding and breaking the Ramadan fast of the day with around 1000 individuals at the Maraba-Nyanya International Market Central Mosque, symbolizing unity and cooperation during this auspicious season,” he added.

 

Reacting to this, Bashir Ahmad described Obi’s gesture as a political script to worm his way into the hearts of Muslims ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ahmad said, “Peter Obi loves dramas; he would have to act in many scripts from now to 2027 and still end up producing an unsellable movie in the ballot boxes. I just watched his latest hit, his visit to a mosque in Nyaya where he joined Muslims during their breaking of the Ramadan fast.”

 

 

    Ahmad further knocked Obi, saying though he spent eight years as a governor, “Obi didn’t deem it fit to break fast with Muslims in Anambra even years after leaving office. 2027 politics is in the offing.” Another user, @ecomohh felt Obi’s action was borne out of his desperation to win many Nigerians’ hearts. He said, “Doing too much. Reeks of desperation.”  

 

 

A popular medical doctor from the southeast region, Chukwuemeka also wrote: “Rochas Okorocha did all these and even more for Northerners yet he failed. GEJ did the same yet they bamboozled him out. Peter Obi is wasting his time..if this is his strategy for 2027 then he is in for a big mess.”

 

  Ada Felix described the situation as ‘consistent eye service’. He added, “God bless Na this kind of eye service we want.”

“He’s over doing it now he’s not even a Muslim,” he said.
