The separatist leader on Sunday denied taking part in the killing of a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige as alleged by Gani Adams.

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, says he has resolved his rift with the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Iba Gani Adams.

Igboho on Wednesday urged Yoruba sons and daughters to stop any persisting wrangling on social media regarding the rift.

The separatist leader on Sunday denied taking part in the killing of a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige as alleged by Gani Adams.

Igboho said this in a press statement on Sunday, saying the clarification was necessary “because of the issues raised by the voice notes going around on social media”.

Igboho said that Aare Gani Adams in a voice note “said things that attacked my character,” a statement signed by his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki on Sunday, said.

But in a video done by Koiki on Wednesday, he said he had been instructed by Igboho to inform Yoruba people that the rift between him and Gani Adams had been resolved.

Koiki said, “To all sons and daughters of Yoruba around the situation going on on social media regarding the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams and himself has now been resolved by royal fathers in Yoruba land.

“Dr Sunday Igboho has asked me to come out officially to plead with everyone at home and abroad to stop all the infighting, name-calling and all different quarrels going on on social media.

“He is pleading with every one of us to please stop all the social media wrangling going on.”

On Sunday, Igboho in a statement told Nigerians that “Gani Adams said a lot of wrong and bad things against me. He mentioned the names of the Nigerian president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and some other notable persons in Yoruba land”.

He said, “In the said note, Aare Gani Adams said I was involved in the killing of the late Chief Bola Ige, SAN. Everyone will still remember the circumstances of the death of Chief Bola Ige, who was the Minister of Justice at the time he was brutally murdered.

“It goes without saying that no one or evidence has ever connected me to his death until these frivolities, malicious and highly scandalous by Aare Gani Adams.

“I want to categorically state that I knew nothing about the killing and death of Chief Bola Ige. Chief Bola Ige died in Ibadan on 23 December 2001 and by newspaper and police reports, one Fryo was charged with the murder.

“In that year, I was engaged in the settlement of the Ife-Modakeke war. I can also remember that it was the same year Aare Gani Adams was imprisoned in Lagos when he was charged with murder and public disturbance arising out of inter-communal violence in Lagos in 2002, and the law firm of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi represented and got bail for him at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi Lagos.”

Igboho challenged “Gani Adams to come forward and prove his assertions”.

He said, “He claimed one Tayo Ayinde gave me money at his Ikeja Hotel on behalf of Asiwaju Bola Hammed Tinubu, who is now the Nigerian President.

“I want to state that I did not go to any hotel in Lagos State to collect money from anyone relating to Asiwaju Bola Hamed Tinubu since he became the President.

“Unlike what Gani Adams said in his voice note, I was never charged to court for murder, nor did I kill anyone to warrant my being charged to court.

“The voice note showed the mind that has serious malice against my personality. It is on record that despite my respect for his position as Oyo chief, the media is full of many bad things he said about me in the past.

“Finally, I need not remind the Omoluabi Yoruba that I have the same tribal marks on my face as the late Alaafin Adeyemi, Omo Oba ni mi (I’m a prince).

“I am not contesting Aare Gani Adams’ position.”

According to Igboho, “Yoruba Nation needs unity at this dangerous moment, not ote ati Ilara (not gang-up or envy)”.

“I leave this allegation to the court of public opinion. Even though my initial reaction was to sue him, but I was advised to take it as Iti Ogede ti kose yo ada si ni asiko ti Ile Yoruba wa ninu Ewu (I was advised to take it as something not to take seriously, especially at a time when Yoruba land is in danger)."
