Olatunji was reportedly abducted from his home in Iyana Odo, Abule Egba area of Lagos, by gunmen suspected to be soldiers on Friday.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu's administration to release FirstNews editor, Segun Olatunji.

Olatunji was reportedly abducted from his home in Iyana Odo, Abule Egba area of Lagos, by gunmen suspected to be soldiers on Friday.

His wife, Abiodun Olatunji, said the armed men numbering ten, arrived at their residence a few minutes after 6 pm and whisked him away, without disclosing where the journalist was being taken to.

Since the abduction, the journalist’s family has yet to receive any form of communication from his abductors.

On Monday, Olatunji’s family wrote an SOS letter to President Tinubu, requesting him to “order the military to immediately release him”.

However, SERAP on Thursday in a statement posted on its X handle said failure to release Olatunji within 48 hours would lead to legal action against the President.

SERAP wrote: “BREAKING: The Tinubu administration must immediately release Segun Olatunji, editor of FirstNews who was reportedly arrested in Lagos by the military. Journalists should never be arrested for doing their job. We’ll see in court if he is not released within 48 hours. @officialABAT.”
