According to the report titled 'Mass Abductions, The Catastrophe Of Nigeria's Kidnap Epidemic,' which examined insecurity in the country from 2019 to March 2024, the Nigerian government's failure to address the menace over the years could also be attributed to internal issues, beyond external issues.
A report by SBM Intelligence has said that some public officers have been sabotaging the government’s efforts to end insecurity in Nigeria.
The report said, “The inability of Nigeria’s security agencies to effectively combat kidnapping reflects a broader failure within the country’s security architecture.
“This failure is not solely due to external threats, but also internal sabotage, with some state officials implicated in collusion with or support for kidnappers. This betrayal of public trust further undermines the already fragile state institutions, contributing to the near-total collapse of the security apparatus.”
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had reported how a spokesman for the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr Daniel Bwala last Friday accused foreign governments of using the current insecurity problem in Nigeria to barter for their interests in diplomatic agreements with the Nigerian Government.
He, therefore, warned President Bola Tinubu to apply local solutions to the incessant kidnap cases in the country.
Bwala asserted that Nigeria was battling an economic crisis. He urged the government not to take the offer from any foreign government seriously because they do not mean well.
He added that the gangs of terrorists kidnapping schoolchildren and other residents were being used as tools to perpetrate the crime.
