The clash which started on Saturday night lasted till the early hours of Sunday.

A yet-to-be-confirmed number of persons has been reportedly killed in a clash between the Montol and Tarok ethnic groups in the Mikang Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The clash which started on Saturday night lasted till the early hours of Sunday.

The incident also led to the burning of many houses and barns, and the displacement of many residents, especially women.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the clash was caused by a dispute over farmland between members of the two aggrieved ethnic groups.

However, some residents of Lalin village accused the army of bias and taking sides with the Tarok group.

Tarok tribe in Langtang North and South local government areas of Plateau State is famous for producing senior military officers.

“We need God's intervention right now in our village - Lalin, Mikang LGA of Plateau State. Langtang tribespeople are killing our people, burning houses and food right now. Army officers are there right now but we don't really know what is happening again. Please help us, we are dying,” a resident said in a message to SaharaReporters.

Another resident added that though security operatives had been deployed to the affected community to restore normalcy, criminals used the opportunity to rustle cattle.

“Because of land, the army officers are not doing anything to save our people from the Tarok people,” he said.

“Please help us, the situation is very worse right now.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the state police command, Alabo Alfred, said security operatives had been deployed to the troubled area while an investigation into the incident continues.
