Nigeria Police Release Names Of Deceased Girls, Women As Death Toll Rises To Seven In Bauchi Free Food Stampede

SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that the tragic incident happened on Sunday morning at the Shafa Holdings Company Plc headquarters along Jos Road where many residents had gathered to receive N10,000 each as alms for the poor.

The death toll in the stampede that occurred during an almsgiving programme in Bauchi on Sunday has risen to seven.

 

SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that the tragic incident happened on Sunday morning at the Shafa Holdings Company Plc headquarters along Jos Road where many residents had gathered to receive N10,000 each as alms for the poor.

 

However, in an official statement on Monday, the police in Bauchi state said that seven people had died in the incident.

 

According to the update, the Command's spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakilin, said six of the victims were confirmed dead at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital while one died at home.

 

He listed the names of the deceased as "Aisha Usman ‘f’ aged 13yrs of Gwang Gwang Gwang, Bauchi; Sahura Abubakar ‘f’ aged 55yrs of Anguwan, Bauchi; Aisha Ibrahim Abubakar ‘f’ aged 43yrs of Kobi Street, Bauchi and Khadija Isah ‘f’ aged 8yrs of Karofi, Bauchi.

 

Others are "Maryam Suleiman ‘f’ aged 20 years of Kandahar, Bauchi; Maryam Shuibu ‘f’ aged 16 years Gwang Gwan Gwan, Bauchi and Hassana Saidu ‘f’ aged 53 years of Dutsen Tanshi, Bauchi.
