APC National Chairman said that the situation must change for the better.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has said that political parties in Nigeria lack identity and ideology.

Ganduje, former Kano State governor, who stated this when he inaugurated the party’s zonal coordinators across the country, explained that the lack of ideology and identity was the reason behind the frequent defections from one political party to another, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Lamenting the development, the APC National Chairman said that the situation must change for the better.

He challenged the zonal co-ordinators of the party in the six geo-political zones to make it happen.

Ganduje named Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State as the coordinator for the South East, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State as the coordinator for the North-Central, and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State as the coordinator for North East.

Also Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State was appointed as the North West coordinator, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State will serve as South West coordinator and Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River as the South South coordinator.

Reading out the terms of reference, the former governor said the governors were expected to initiate periodic interface with the party’s leadership.

He said, “They should liaise with the party to commence the immediate process of genuine reconciliation of aggrieved members in the geo-political zone.

“Mobilise governors of the zones to effectively and physically participate in the party’s activities in the zone, consult with governors and resolve issues that will further enhance its progress and unity.

“They are to also assist the party on resource mobilisation in serving the party and participate in any other activity that may be assigned by the party.

“We want to change the narrative, we want our political party to be active throughout the year, therefore, all our offices must be physically operational; all our offices must be functionally operational.”

“Right from the local government to state level, there must be activities throughout, but this cannot happen by chance,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the coordinators, Uzodimma, who is also the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), thanked the party leadership for the initiative.

Commending the national chairman, Uzodimma said: “We are very delighted and happy that the party in its wisdom, introduced this new policy of proper co-ordination, we at the PGF have a membership of 20 governors which means 20 states currently being governed by APC.”

“We have to start from there to ensure an inclusive participation of all our party members, and to take this participation to the grassroots, I think that is the wisdom behind this inauguration,” he said.
