Brig Al Shamsi has encouraged the public not to show sympathy for accused beggars. Instead, he asked residents to immediately report any instances of illicit begging.

The United Arab Emirates government has arrested at least 200 foreigners who went to the country on a short visit visa to make quick money during the holy month of Ramadan.

This was confirmed by Brig Ali Salem Al Shamsi, director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department at the Dubai Police, who said the arrests were made to strengthen the government's action against beggars during the holy month of Ramadan, aiming to curb illegal begging activities in the middle east country, according to Madhyamam Online.

Speaking more on the incident, a popular TV station, Dubai One announced through a broadcaster, “Authorities say the violators came on a visit visa to make quick money by taking advantage of people's generosity. Among those arrested were 112 men and 90 women. According to Dubai police, the offenders will be subject to a minimum fine of 5,000 Dirham, and up to three months imprisonment.”

“Those who organised beginning activities and brought individuals from abroad will be punished with imprisonment for at least six months and at least 100,000 Dirhams,” the TV broadcaster added.

Brig Al Shamsi has encouraged the public not to show sympathy for accused beggars. Instead, he asked residents to immediately report any instances of illicit begging. This can be accomplished by calling 901 or using the 'Police Eye' feature found on the Dubai Police smart smartphone.

Al Shamsi emphasises the need to make philanthropic contributions to recognised and legitimate organisations. Persons may ensure that their donations reach those who are truly in need, rather than getting into the hands of unscrupulous organisations or persons.

The Dubai Police's crackdown on beggars is an attempt to maintain peace and order throughout Ramadan. Citizens are asked to comply with police and avoid dealing with unlawful beggars.

Dubai hopes to preserve the holiness of Ramadan while also assuring the well-being of its inhabitants through collaborative initiatives.
