The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has explained why one of its personnel, CPL AI Garba was arrested and subsequently detained.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported how Garba was detained over his TikTok videos comparing US military officers with their counterparts in West African countries.

A relation of Garba had revealed that he had been locked up at an underground cell in Abuja since his arrest in February.

"It’s been over six weeks now that he has been in detention in Abuja. We were not granted access to him and he is medically unfit to be in detention because of his health record,” the family member had said.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet confirmed Garba’s detention.

Gabkwet said the soldier was in custody for violation of some provisions of the Armed Forces Act.

“Let me, however, state that the NAF and indeed the military as a whole are guided by set rules and regulations,” he said.

“Any personnel who violates these rules and regulations or falls short of its expectations knows the consequences. Indiscipline in whatever form will not be tolerated.”
