Nigerian University, UNILORIN Expels 19 Students Including Finalists For Theft, Exam Malpractices

It further said that penalties for the offences committed by the students included rustication for either one semester or one academic session, including expulsion.

The management of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has expelled 19 students after being found guilty of theft, examination malpractices and other acts which violated the school code of conduct.  

 

This was announced in a press statement by the Director of Corporate Affairs of the University, Kunle Akogun, on Monday, stating that at least six final-year students of the institution were among the rusticated students. 

 

The press statement added that expulsion was approved by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole, SAN, and was recommended by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 220th/221st meeting.

 

According to the statement, the affected students were penalised for offences ranging from misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering and extortion, beating a fellow student, admission racketeering, extortion and assault.

 

It further said that penalties for the offences committed by the students included rustication for either one semester or one academic session, including expulsion.

 

The affected students were in various academic levels such as 100, 200, 300 and 400 Levels.

 

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had also reported how management of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), confirmed the expulsion of at least nine students of the institution over alleged malpractice in February. 

 

The affected students were drawn from "Faculties/Departments such as Agriculture/Aquaculture and Fisheries; Agriculture/Agricultural Extension and Rural Development; Arts/Linguistics and Nigerian Languages; CIS/Library and Information Science, CIS/ Telecommunication Science; Education/Adult and Primary Education Studies; Engineering and Tech/Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Engr and Tech/ Materials and Metallurgical Engineering as well as Life Science/Zoology.
