In a media release posted on its X (former Twitter) handle, USMS said Abreu was arrested on Tuesday, April 2, on multiple warrants from Massachusetts.
The United States Marshals Service (USMS), Maine Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF) has announced the arrest of a wanted fugitive, Jeremiah Abreu, 20, of Brockton, MA in Lewiston, Maine.
Jeremiah will be charged with fatally shooting his brother, identified as 27-year-old Sedrick Abreu.
In a media release posted on its X (former Twitter) handle, USMS said Abreu was arrested on Tuesday, April 2, on multiple warrants from Massachusetts.
According to the release, he was wanted on one count of homicide, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, one count of unlawful possession of ammunition, one count of assault & battery with a deadly weapon, one count of discharging a firearm within 500ft of a building, and one count of assault & battery (domestic).
The release noted that Abreu was being sought in connection to a homicide which occurred in Brockton, MA on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
Part of the statement reads: "The USMS, District of Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force, provided investigative leads to the USMS MVOTF requesting assistance in locating and apprehending Abreu in Maine.
"Through a collaborative law enforcement effort, authorities developed information which led investigators to Lewiston, ME. USMS Task Force members and the Lewiston Maine Police were able to identify Abreu in a motor vehicle and were able to safely apprehend him without incident in Lewiston, Maine.
"Abreu is charged as a Fugitive from Justice and will be arraigned in Maine pending his extradition back to Massachusetts.
"The USMS, Maine Violent Offender Task Force received significant assistance from the Lewiston, ME Police Department, the USMS District of MA Fugitive Task Force, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), and the Brockton, MA Police Department.
"The USMS Maine Violent Offender Task Force is comprised of members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Maine Department of Corrections, Biddeford Police Department, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
