The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shiites says six of its members and a passerby allegedly killed by the police in Kaduna State have been buried.

In a message to SaharaReporters, one of the leaders of the IMN, said many others were also injured.

SaharaReporters had last Friday reported how policemen opened fire on Shiites during their annual Quds Day rally in Zaria and Kaduna, state capital.

Quds Day, which uses the Arabic name for Jerusalem, is a Palestinian solidarity day held every year by IMN members on the last Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

He identified members of the group killed as Shaheed Mahamud Umar, Shaheed Ibrahim Rabiu (Abba), Shaheed Haidar ishaq Unguwar Mu’azu, Shaheed Mustapha Buruku, Ahmad Mustafa and Shahid Ammar Abdullahi Maigana.

Also said to have been killed was a resident of the Kaduna identified as Abdulwasi’u Abdurrafiu’u.

“The extrajudicial killings of the pro-Palestinian protesters by the Nigerian police in Kaduna State reached 6 people following the additional death of one of the injured who succumbed to injuries in Zaria late Saturday the 6th of April, 2024,” he said.

“Shaheed Ammar Abdullahi Maigana reached martyrdom after succumbing to serious injuries in Zaria. This makes the number of protesters in both Kaduna and Zaria to be Six (6), Two in Zaria, and Four in Kaduna:

“Shaheed Mahamud Umar, Shaheed Ibrahim Rabiu (Abba), Shaheed Haidar ishaq Unguwar Mu’azu, Shaheed Mustapha Buruku. Ahmad Mustafa killed in Zaria and Shahid Ammar Abdullahi Maigana also killed in Zaria.

“One additional by-passer was also reported killed in Zaria by stray bullets, identified as Abdulwasi’u Abdurrafiu’u. His brother made it public on Facebook. Thus, making the total number of people killed by Nigerian police seven (7).

“The Nigerian Police in Both Kaduna and Zaria opened fire with live ammunition on the peaceful protesters on Friday the 5th of April 2024 while marking the International Quds Day.”
