Woman Collapses While Trying To Put Out Fire That Razed Four Buildings At Lagos Market

Oke-Osanyintolu said no death or injury was recorded at the scene of the fire outbreak.

A woman collapsed on Tuesday while attempting to put out a raging fire at Dosunmu Market in the Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State.

 

SaharaReporters earlier reported that four buildings were razed by the fire.

 

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement on Tuesday, said the agency received a distress call around 11 am on Tuesday.

 

Oke-Osanyintolu said no death or injury was recorded at the scene of the fire outbreak.

 

He, however, added that a woman collapsed while trying to put out the fire, and was promptly treated by paramedics from the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit at the incident scene.

 

He said the woman was later moved to Marina General Hospital for continued medical care.

 

Part of the statement reads, "At 1102hrs, the Agency received distress calls via its Toll Free Emergency numbers 767/112 prompting activation of the Lagos State Emergency Response Plan.

 

"On arrival of the Lekki Response Team at the incident scene, it was discovered that a two-storey building, the structure beside it, and two other three-storey buildings behind it, were engulfed by fire at the aforementioned address.

 

"Immediate cause of the inferno could not be ascertained as at when writing this report, as the fire had swiftly escalated to adjoining buildings within the premises.

 

"In the cause of the Search, Rescue and Recovery Operation, after due Situation Assessment, LASEMA expanded Response Capacity with additional Teams, manpower and equipment from Onipanu, Cappa Base and the LRU Fire Unit.

 

“No casualties, nor injuries were recorded at the incident scene, however, while putting out the fire, an adult female collapsed and was promptly attended by Paramedics from the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit at the incident scene, before being moved swiftly to Marina General Hospital for continued medical care.

 

"All emergency responders present at the scene are working together and aggressively combating the fire so as to mitigate the inferno from further spreading to adjourning buildings.

 

"In Attendance: LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LNSC Officials, CBD Crew and Officers of Nigeria Police Force."
