SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Federal High Court on Friday morning sentenced Bobrisky to jail after he pleaded guilty to a criminal charge surrounding Naira mutilation.

Some Nigerians have expressed reservations on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over Friday's Federal High Court judgement which sentenced Idris Okuneye, a popular cross-dresser known as Bobrisky to six months in prison.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Federal High Court on Friday morning sentenced Bobrisky to jail after he pleaded guilty to a criminal charge surrounding Naira mutilation.

Reacting, many Nigerians described the court decision as "unfair" and accused the Nigerian authorities of turning blind eyes to other prominent Nigerians who had also committed similar crimes.

A Facebook user, Sylvester Ekwueme said, “Picking people and taking them to court for this issue is not the best practice. I think if this is an offence , there should be a pronouncements and conference reminding people of this. I didn't know about this until when a star was also jailed in Lagos for the case.

“We had the greatest abuse in OBA one certain time and no one was held in that burial. My question now is: are there people who are allowed to do this and those not allowed? Proper awareness of this offence is very necessary because lots of people are doing this on a daily basis. This is just a candid appeal.”

“The judge and EFCC have gone too far; this is a selective judgement. Spraying of naira note is a custom known to Nigeria. Even when he said he will lead a crusade to stop this action you still convicted her without option of fine. Who is persecuting Bobrisky,” another one, Ikoh Ogecha also added.

Idera Olameji believed that Bobrisky should have been given a lesser punishment because he is a first time offender.

He wrote: This is too harsh for a first time offender who agreed that he was wrong and ready to amend and even promised to lead the campaign against money mutilation. Bobrisky Pele! I'm very sure, this weekend you would see thousands mutilating the naira and nothing will happen. I shall be very happy if the EFCC go out this weekend and make some arrest because surely you will see them.”

Edu Slim Akukwe also wrote: “I know that they have been targeting Bobrisky all these while but he didn't see it coming. He was carried away with fame and money.

“This is a targeted prosecution. I am not a Nigerian, but spraying money is a very common thing in Nigeria, at so many occasions. We see the so-called Odogwus spraying money everyday. Never heard any arrest until Bob did it. Anyways, is he going to the male or female prison?” Minell Nicholson claimed.
