The IED was reportedly planted by terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

At least 10 persons have been reported dead while 20 others sustained varying degrees of injury when a commercial vehicle drove over an Improvised Explosive Device.

The IED was reportedly planted by terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, said that the commercial vehicle was travelling on the Baga Road in the Kukawa Local Government Area of the state when the incident occurred on Wednesday.

He said the vehicle exploded after driving over the IED believed to have been planted around Mosquito Camp for the troops of Sector 3 Operation Hadin Kai of the Nigerian Army fighting terrorists in the Northern region of the country.

The injured victims were reportedly taken to a hospital in Monguno for treatment.

Efforts made by SaharaReporters to get the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth, on the phone failed.
