Nigerian police have arrested a fugitive who allegedly chopped off his wife's head with a machete and escaped from Adamawa to Ondo State.
The 40-year-old man, identified as Riba Kwanta, cut his wife, Godiya Akwale in the neck, killing her, the police said.
The incident happened on December 3, 2023 at Bode in the Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed his arrest to SaharaReporters on Wednesday.
He said, "He accused his wife of keeping late nights with a female friend; which is why he macheted her neck, leading to her death, locked her up in their bedroom and escaped to Ondo State.
"He committed the crime on December 3, 2023 in their Bode residence in Shelleng Local Government Area."
Nguroje added that the state police commissioner, Dankombo Morris had ordered a discreet investigation into the matter and prosecution of the suspect.
"The CP equally urged the public to avoid taking the laws into their hands," Nguroje said.
