PDP Holds NEC Meeting Thursday Amid Calls For Resignation Of National Chairman, Damagum
April 17, 2024

Ahead of Thursday's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has claimed it passed a vote of confidence on the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba disclosed this decision of the NWC was the outcome of its 584th meeting at the party's National Secretariat on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, adding that “it is in commendation of the efforts and commitment of the acting National Chairman to stabilise and reposition the PDP as the main opposition party in Nigeria.

“The Deputy National Chairman (South) Amb. Taofeek Arapaja presided over the motion for Vote of Confidence on the acting National Chairman which was moved by the National Vice Chairman (South East) Chief Ali Odefa and seconded by the National Treasurer, Yayari Mohammed.”

The NWC also assured of its commitment in ensuring the continued stability, growth and success of our great Party at all time.

The PDP is currently going through internal crisis, following the fallout of Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the party's candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar.

Damagum's emagence as acting National Chairman caused ripples within the party, as the North Central geopolitical zone where suspended Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu hails from, is insisting on completing his tenure.

As things stand, the Wike group within the NWC appear to be calling the shots, seeing they are working to retain Damagum as Chairman to complete the tenure of Ayu.

Similar efforts to pass a vote of confidence on Damagum by PDP legislators in the House of Representatives were thwarted on Tuesday.
