This was stated by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba when he appeared on Arise News TV.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the party will not be deterred by its internal crisis in watching the activities of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the policies of President Bola Tinubu.
This was stated by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba when he appeared on Arise News TV.
Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, recently criticised the Tinubu administration's stance on the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, calling it wasteful and a "highway to fraud."
Atiku said this in response to a declaration by Minister of Works David Umahi that the 700-kilometre motorway will cost N15.6 trillion.
However, in the wake of some internal strife, the PDP has been grappling with particularly concerning the party’s leadership, some members of the APC had called on the opposition to focus on its own issues rather than the government under Tinubu.
Ologunagba said that focusing solely on the party’s internal issues would be a disservice to the nation.
He added that the PDP as a major opposition party had the responsibility to address national concerns, such as the state of the economy and security, which affect the daily lives of Nigerians.
He also emphasised that the party’s criticism of the government under Tinubu was not merely opposition for its sake but a reflection of the party’s commitment to the interests of the people.
He said, “PDP cannot operate in isolation to the environment in which we are as a country. So it would be out of place if PDP doesn’t talk about the general insecurity in the nation and the economy that is in shambles.
“And so if APC can look around and say PDP should concentrate on itself and not bother about the economy, it means what we have described it to be has now been confirmed: a party that doesn’t have the interest of the people at heart.”
