Students Union Declares Shutdown Of Academic Activities In LAUTECH Over Killing Of Colleague By Policeman

The Oyo State chapter of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Campus Monitoring Committee (CMC), has declared a shutdown of academic activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, over the killing of a student of the institution by a policeman.

The union vehemently in a statement issued by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Michael Oladipupo, on Tuesday condemned vehemently what it described as “the appalling and senseless murder of one of our esteemed students at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso at the hands of members of the Nigerian Police Force.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported that LAUTECH located in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State was thrown into chaos after a policeman on Monday shot a student dead and injured two others.

It was gathered that the incident occurred when the police officer was called to settle a misunderstanding between two people in the school, but rather than settle the matter, he shot sporadically into the air and in the process, shot the student dead and injured two others.

Following the incident, SaharaReporters gathered that there is heavy protest going on in the school as the angry students blocked the school gates demanding justice for the victims.

Reacting to the incident, Oladipupo who declared that no academic activity should be held at the institution, also said that a directive  on protest and mobilisation will be released soon.

Oladipupo said that “This tragic incident not only represents a gross violation of human rights but also underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reform within law enforcement agencies across Nigeria.

“In this extensive discourse, we aim to explore the harrowing details of the incident, examine its broader implications, and articulate our stance on seeking justice and driving systemic change.

“In this stance, no Classes must take place anywhere on Campus today. Further directive on Protest and Mobilisation will be released soonest. Till Justice is served, Aluta Continua.”
