Over Two Years After, 22-Year-Old Bamise Ayanwola Raped, Killed By BRT Bus Lagos Yet To Get Justice –Activist

He asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to, as a matter of urgency, ensure the late Bamise gets justice.

Human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has accused the Lagos State government of denying justice to the 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola, who was allegedly raped and brutally murdered by a driver of the Lagos State Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in February 2022.

 

Nwapa on Tuesday in a post on his X account demanded justice for Bamise, saying it is unfortunate that after two years, three months and 10 days (800 days), the victim was yet to get justice.  

 

He asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to, as a matter of urgency, ensure the late Bamise gets justice.

 

Nwapa said, “@jidesanwoolu fish out killers of Bamise and prosecute them now!

 

“800 days after Bamise Ayanwola, the 22-year-old fashion designer who was brutally raped and murdered inside a (BRT) Bus in Lagos, justice has been denied.”

 

SaharaReporters had reported that a pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof Sunday Shoyemi, confirmed that Bamise was murdered.

 

Shoyemi told a Lagos State High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), that the death of Bamise who was caused by a blunt force trauma.

 

The pathologist, while giving evidence before Justice Sherifat Sonaike, said that the 22-year-old fashion designer, in the light of his findings, died as a result of severe craniocerebral injury following a blunt force trauma.

 

Shoyemi explained to the court how the autopsy was conducted, saying that Bamise’s body had no clothing but a silver-coloured ring was found on her middle finger.

SaharaReporters had reported that the driver of the BRT bus, Andrew Nice Ominnikoron, arrested in connection with Bamise’s death is facing five counts bordering on felony, sexual assault, rape, conspiracy, and murder before Justice Sherifat Sonaike.

 

Bamise went missing after she boarded a BRT vehicle from Chevron Bus Stop, Ajah to Oshodi around 7 pm on February 26, 2022.

 

During the journey, the fashion designer was said to have observed that the driver was not picking up other passengers at bus stops along her route.

 

Disturbed, she messaged her friend and sent voice notes detailing her predicament. It was the last time her friend and family members heard from her as she was later declared missing.

Her body was later found on Carter Bridge, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
