A resident of the community in a video posted on X by a civic technology platform, Monitng, on Friday, lamented that some residents sometimes don’t get water to fetch after animals have messed up the stream.

Residents of Zhayampa Sumpe in the Bwari Area Council in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, share a water source in the community with animals, a resident has said.

A resident of the community in a video posted on X by a civic technology platform, Monitng, on Friday, lamented that some residents sometimes don’t get water to fetch after animals have messed up the stream.

Showing the stream and explaining how residents fetch water from it, the resident said, “Look at the water they drink. Some people that might come late, they would follow this process.

"In order to stop those people (those who take their animals to drink from the stream) from entering inside, they had to put some blockage so that there won't be any entry inside.

"Look at where they (animals) enter. Look at the signs of their legs (footprints). Look at the main place the water is coming from. Look at where your people are drinking water from and you are inside town enjoying yourselves with bottle and sachet water.

"Please, for crying out sake, we are pleading for your help. We look forward to getting your help."

Monitng platform noted that as a result of sharing the same contaminated water with animals, residents continue to suffer from waterborne diseases with over 2,000 residents already affected.

Calling on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike and the FCT Senator, Ireti Kingibe, for urgent intervention, Monitng said, “It's critical for FCT and relevant authorities to intervene immediately.”
