The arrest on Monday morning follows agitations against the recent tuition fee hike in the school.

SaharaReporters learnt that the students and the activist were being detained at the school’s security post at the time of filing this report.

Announcing his freedom on X, the activist narrated how he was assaulted by the security men at the university.

He wrote: “Earlier today at the University of Ibadan where I joined students to protest hiked fees. From 20k to over 400k. The Management felt threatened by our show of courage, challenging their undemocratic and wicked fee hike as directed by @officialABAT.

“The VC then mobilized security officers, some persons who look like thugs, a particular Victor whom they said he’s an errand boy of @seyiamakinde to attack us. We were dragged out of the hall, beaten, the lady amongst us was also beaten and dragged to the Security. The beating continued at the Unit.

“The CSO, Mr Victor Fadebiyi after he has been defeated by our arguments in spite of the torture, threatened to criminalize our agitation. After about an hour of both beating and intimidation tactics, they resorted to calling soldiers from Operation Burst to come deal with us.

“The armed soldiers and NSCDC officers, about 5 of them stormed the campus on the directives of the VC, Prof. Kayode Adebowale and whisked us away in a gestapo manner. Operation Burst, Agodi, not far from the Government House.

“Ironically, these armed soldiers behaved civilly than the security officers of UI- a shame on our ivory towers. After 5 hours of questioning but with massive agitation across board, for our freedom, we were released

“We remain undaunted in our quest for economic prosperity, social justice and most specifically for fees to fall.

“The placards of just 4 persons got them shivering. What about the thousands coming?

Nigerian students! Wake up.

They all need to flee!
