The demolition notice was issued on Monday by the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
The Lagos State government has issued a 48-hour demolition notice to owners of properties built on the Right-Of-Way drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa in the Isolo area of the state.
The demolition notice was issued on Monday by the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who made this known on Tuesday said, “This is in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017 and the renewed drive of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s effort to ensure free flow of rainwater and prevent flooding across the State.”
The demolition notice stated that the inspection carried out under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017 to the tenement situated off Igwe Enze Street, Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa on Monday “revealed that your contravention(s) consist of the following: Dumped or caused to be dumped refuse or waste/toxic substance within or inside the drainage channel.
“Construct or caused to be constructed a structure to block the drainage channel/canal.
“Construct or caused to be constructed/build house on Right-Of-Way (R.O.W) of drainage channel/canal.”
The notice further advised the affected persons, saying, “If you dispute the above contraventions, you are requested to bring all relevant underline within our cases or these Drainage Clearance Certificate to the underline within 48 hours of the service of this notice on you.
“If you do not dispute the contravention, you are hereby to remove the contravention(s) or make good the Strom Water Drainage System to its original condition.
“If you fail to remove the said contraventions within 48 hours from the date of service (of) the notice, the said contraventions shall be demolished after service of Demolition Notice on you.
“Wall fence/part of building on drainage alignment.”
