No fewer than four students of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State were reportedly injured on Thursday when a rainstorm destroyed a popular lecture hall in the school known as Amphitheatre.

In multiple viral videos seen by SaharaReporters, it was seen that the storm removed the roof of the lecture hall and caused substantial damage to the facility.

SaharaReporters learned that the incident occurred while hundreds of students were receiving a lecture inside the hall.

A student of the school, popularly known as Josh of OAU said the four injured students had been rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

He wrote on X: “The rain came with a whirlwind that collapsed a side of the cover roofing of Amphitheater. Reportedly, it affected 4 students and they have been rushed to the hospital. We pray for their quick recovery.”

Corroborating Josh’s account, the university’s Association of Campus Journalists added: “Photo Story: Rainstorm destroys Amphitheatre Roof during SER Class, Injured students rushed to Health Centre.”

Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, the spokesperson for the university, did not answer repeated calls made to reach him on the phone for comment on the incident. He also did not reply to a text message sent to his mobile line, seeking his comment and an update on the incident.
