Residents of Tatagyiya community located in Gwagwa Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory, have been battling frequent cases of diarrhea emanating from a dirty and contaminated stream which serves the area, SaharaReporters has learnt.

Monitng, a civic technology platform that provides citizens with information to track the progress of public projects and access public data, shared the photographs of the community on Saturday while calling on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and the FCT Senator, Ireti Kingibe, to take urgent intervention action in Tatagyiya community.

The organisation took to X platform (formerly Twitter) to reveal and lament how residents of the Tatagyiya community located in Gwagwa Ward, AMAC Abuja, had been subjected to frequent cases of diarrhea emanating from dirty and contaminated stream water they drink which is the only source of water in the community.

According to Monitng, the water is completely unsafe for human consumption.

Attached with videos and photos of the stream and residents fetching water from the stream, the organisation wrote, “This is Tatagyiya community located in Gwagwa ward, AMAC Abuja. This dirty stream is the ONLY source of water.

“The water is not safe for human consumption. Cases of diarrhea among children are frequent in the community.

“We call on @GovWike and @IretiKingibe to kindly reach out to the responsible authorities to do the needful. Residents of this community need clean water for consumption.”
