The US State Department made the claim on Monday without providing further details.

The United States of America has said that the Iranian government requested its assistance in the helicopter crash that claimed the life of the country's president, Ebrahim Raisi, on Sunday.

The US State Department made the claim on Monday without providing further details.

AFP quoted the US State Department spokesman, Matthew Miller, as saying, "I'm not going to get into the details, but we were asked by the Iranian government for assistance," adding that the US was unable to oblige Iran's request "largely for logistical reasons."

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters earlier reported that the former Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, accused the US of being responsible for the death of President Raisi and his entourage in the helicopter crash that occurred on Sunday.

Zarif reportedly said that the US sanctions on Iran’s aviation industry led to the unfortunate incident that took the lives of President Raisi, Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, East Azarbaijan Province’s Governor, Malek Rahmati, and Mehdi Mousavi, the head of Raisi’s bodyguard team.

Iranian news agency IRNA reports that Zarif said on Monday that they would overcome the tragic event.

He reportedly added that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s war of aggression against Iran, the martyrdom of 72 of Imam Khomeini’s companions, the martyrdom of popular president Mohammad-Ali Rajaee, and the cruel sanctions against Iran were part of the difficult conditions that the Islamic Republic successfully overcame.

Zarif said that one of the causes of the heartbreaking incident is the US, which by sanctioning the sale of the aviation industry to Iran caused the martyrdom of the president and his companions, and the US’s crime will be recorded in the minds of the Iranian people and history.
