The Akwa Ibom Command of the Nigerian Police Force says it is working ‘round the clock’ to rescue the paramount ruler of Mbo Local Government Area in the state, Ogwong Abang.

The traditional ruler was kidnapped by gunmen in his palace in Ebughu community on Saturday.

However, speaking with SaharaReporters on Monday morning, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Timfon John, said efforts were in top gear to rescue the monarch unhurt.

Timfon said that since the command received the information about the abduction of the traditional ruler, it had been working round the clock to ensure his unconditional and timely release.

“We received the information and the police are working round the clock already to ensure that the monarch regains freedom.

"So, we are actually on that as regards to make sure that the victim returned unhurt. So we are aware of it and we are on top of our game to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and the victim returned unhurt and reunited with their family," she said.

Asked whether the police were able to track the kidnappers, she said, "If anything comes up, I will bring that to your knowledge."
