May 23, 2024

In multiple videos seen by SaharaReporters on X, the fire was burning heavily and residents were calling for immediate intervention of fire service and other relevant emergency agencies.

A Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) filling station at the Fadeyi area of Lagos State is currently on fire.

The fire, which started in the evening hours of Thursday, has caused traffic congestion around the place of the incident.

The cause of the fire incident is unknown as at the time of filing the report and there is also no official information on the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

In multiple videos seen by SaharaReporters on X, the fire was burning heavily and residents were calling for immediate intervention of fire service and other relevant emergency agencies.

A user on X, Softwallet wrote: “URGENT! A Fuel tanker is on fire near Fadeyi Bus Stop right now.  #Lagos

“There’s traffic around that place, please the appropriate officials should be notified. Abeg oooo.”

“Please help rt NNPC filling station on fire in fadeyi, we need fire fighters,” another resident, Emmy added.

This incident is coming barely six days after a report about the fire incident that occurred at The new Nigerian National Petroleum Company Terminal in Apapa, Lagos.

The NNPC facility was rescued by the swift intervention of The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service last  Friday.

A statement issued by the Director/CEO of the state fire service, Margaret Adeseye, around 1 pm had on Friday said the “fire resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the tank farm as concerted efforts with various emergency responders within the oil and gas industry to contain the situation”.

“The public is hereby assured that the emergency operation is under control from escalating further. Update to follow,” she added.

In 2020, SaharaReporters had also reported how a NNPC filling station at the Ogba area of Lagos was gutted by fire.

The fire spread to a residential building close to it.
