The Enugu State police command has arrested and arraigned a masquerader for allegedly assaulting a woman in Nsukka.

SaharaReporters gathered that the masquerader was intercepted and arrested at about 3.45 pm on May 12, 2024 by police personnel attached to the Nsukka Sector of the Enugu State Command's Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad.

The masquerader popularly known as Oriokpa was sighted physically assaulting a female victim at Ugwuoye Junction, Nsukka.

In a statement by the command's spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the incident and that the masquerader was later identified as Ugwuoke Ebube, 22, of Enugu Road, Nsukka.

Ndukwe explained that following an investigation into the case, the police discovered that the suspect was part of a group of masqueraders who similarly assaulted a female nurse riding a motorcycle, as captured in a viral video in April 2024.

"He was today, May 22, 2024, arraigned in the Nsukka Magistrate Court of Enugu State, Nigeria, but was granted bail by the court," Ndukwe said.

The police spokesman said the state police commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, condemned the act and warned those intending to hide under the guise of celebrating festivals to commit such criminal acts of assaulting fellow citizens to desist forthwith.

He stressed that the command will henceforth not hesitate to bring anyone found wanting to justice, just as in the case at hand.
