Tinubu Orders Review Of Tertiary Institutions' Governing Boards To Reflect Federal Character

The ministry also announced that the inauguration and retreat for the nominees will be held on May 31.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive review of the governing boards of tertiary institutions in the country to reflect federal character and national spread.

The governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria were recently announced. The review will come before the retreat for the nominees.

Following the announcement of the constitution of the boards, the Federal Ministry of Education recently released the names of nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

The ministry also announced that the inauguration and retreat for the nominees will be held on May 31.

But the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement said that public reactions have shown that the nominations did not reflect the federal character of the country as some states got just one nomination while some got many.

Onanuga stated that President Tinubu, while ordering a complete review of the list of board members, acknowledged the feedback received from across the country.

Onanuga added, “President Tinubu is committed to ensuring strict compliance with the principle of federal character as entrenched in the constitution.

“The review will also take into consideration national spread and ensure every part of the country is adequately represented.”
